TSA fights major image problem
"As bad as these cases look, TSA Administrator John Pistole says they do not represent an endemic problem."
Mr. Pistole is wrong. It is an endemic problem, and TSA leadership and management are responsible.
TSA did away with 2 important protections early on. Pre 9/11 security guards were licensed and boded, current TSA employees are not. Line screeners are poorly paid; this encourages theft. Finally, TSA leadership instituted a the enhanced pat down as punishment for those who "opt out". This procedure requires screeners to engage in illegal activity and compromise ethics; it encourages an attitude of disrespect of the passenger and encourages other unethical conduct.
TSA leadership has compromised the integrity of their own organization. They make excuses for widespread misconduct, and have yet to realized that they are the cause of their own problems.
